Just days after posting new pictures out of Car & Driver, Edmunds.com test drove the new 2008 JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Mitsubishi provides us with new pictures.
What we’ve now learned is that when the Evolution hits the US it will come with two of the following trims and features.
GSR – Base Model, 5spd Transmission, 18″ Rims
MR – Accoustic insulation, HID Headlights, upgrded dampeners and 6speed clutchless transmission, lightened brake rotors and lightened BBS rims.
What’s exciting to hear is that the new 4B11 engine is going to use a semi-closed deck block along with forged rods and crank. This MIVEC engine is now chain driven with a compression of 9.0:1. On our US model, this engine will make 295 horsepower at 6500 RPM and 300 wheel torque at 4,000 RPM, with a fuel cut off of 7600 RPMs.
Even with the more mature refinement and all of the new suspension technology, Mitsubishi still has not forgotten about us enthusiasts that still want to get the most out of the car. According to Edmund’s article there is a hint that Mitsubishi engineers have programmed in some suspension mappings to the new S-AWC to alter the personality of the car.
