Depending on which axle you are attempting to remove but here are a few tips.
Before pulling the axles out of the transmission make sure you have drained your fluid!!!
When removing either drive shaft, it's easiest to simply unbolt the wheel hub on the bottom where it connects to the "A" arm of the wheel assembly. Once you unbolt that, pull it out of the "A" arm and that will give you enough play with the wheel hub to pull the axle out of that first. This of course is after you pull the pin on the axle and unbolt it from the center of the brake rotor.
On the passenger side you must unbolt the axle bracket from the back of the engine before you pull it out of the transmission.
Pulling the axle out of the transmission is sometimes as easy as pulling it straight out (especially on the passenger side). If it does prove to be a bit of a task, you can take one of the pieces out of the tire jack kit that comes with the car to help pry out the axle. I do not suggest prying the axle seals so hard that you end up tearing up the seal, but instead rotate the axle 1/4 of a turn and giving it a very easy pry, turning again, easy pry, turning again, easy pry and it will come out with ease. The axles are not in with any level of tightness. It simply clicks in/out of the differential.
Most importantly, just be patient and take your time when pulling the axle out. By the time you've read this I hope you have already removed the axle
