I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/09 00:47 Hi, Iv'e got an 01' Stratus R/T 5-speed Stock. After checking out many Stratus 3.0's, Iv'e found lots of people have the RIPP Tuners kit (supercharger). I finally found Tearstone from a forum a couple weeks ago. Anyway, I'm real interested in your kit, but I'm not sure everything neccessary that needs to happen.

Mind you I know how to change my oil, and that's about it.

I know the car has 200 crank hp stock, and i'm looking to do at least 300whp. Some questions, do I replace the pistons? Does the engine have to come out to bold this kit on? and... I'm looking to do the fuel injectors and fuel management. Do or should I get a boost controller, gauges? Should I buy another engine, and work the kit onto that, or does the kit bolt on with the engine in the car?

Main question is, how much HP can I get until I start doing damage? What are the general HP limits until more work has to be done?

Another main question... What would be the cost of any extra parts/labor (estimated) for this kit to be added, and for me to get around 300whp? And what can I buy from Tearstone that would make my car real sweeet?

Sorry to ask so many dumb questions, but I wanna be sure before I get this kit, that it's right for me.

Anybody have this done, and if so, what did it cost you? And how much HP are you running? Any knocking in your engine?

ANOTHER question for Tearstone, what is the reliability of your kit? I'm just scared to spend crap loads of money, then bust my engine. I don't ever take the engine past 5000RPM, so is that good?

THANKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH!

My stock R/T.....v

Re:I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/10 09:47 Hey clearfeather,

Making 300whp on this car isnt hard to do at all. It is recommended that you upgrade your engine internals for anything past 8psi. You can get away with the stock motor for quite some time on lower boost with a safe tune. But, if you have a 5-speed you will definitely need an upgraded clutch. The stock clutch will not hold up to much over the stock horsepower output.

The engine does not have to be pulled to bolt on the kit. Installation is pretty straight forward, but if you have limited experience working on cars it might be best to take it to a shop and have it done.

The Greddy Emanage (fuel management) and injectors come with the kit, and the Emanage has a safe baseline tune on it. We can provide all that with the kit.

The limits of the motor arent really based on horespower, but more the boost level. Like I said before, the highest we recommend you go on a stock motor is 8psi. Anything over that and you will need upgraded engine internals. The only thing we advise you to replace after installing the kit is the clutch. If you plan on drag racing, a Quaife Limited Slip Differential is also a good idea, as the stock units have been known to break under excessively hard launches.

Installation costs will vary greatly from shop to shop. You can expect to pay anywhere from $500-$1000 for the install. Other things you will need are a boost gauge and EGT gauge, which we can provide you with. These gauges will help you monitor how safe your motor is running and will help to warn you if there is a problem.

The quality and reliability of the kit is great. The kits are professionally crafted and a lot of time went into the design of them, and we use only the best in performance parts. You wouldnt have to worry about anything failing on you. These kits are built to last.

I hope I covered everything for you. If you have any more questions or there is anything I missed, please post up and I wil address it for you

Re:I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/11 11:32 Thanks Mike for you help with this.

So I need to get these parts from Tearstone;

-The Tearstone FI Kit
-Fuel Management
-Fuel Injectors
-Clutch Kit
-Quaife Limited Slip Diff.
-Boost Gauge
-ECT Gauge
-Installation (other source)

Couple more Q's, you guys sell all these parts? Could you give me the links? And also, how much is shipping, if I were to buy everything at once? Any kinda deal?

Also, what does a Limited Slip Differential do? Yes, I'll probably do some drag racing, quarter mile times. And what does the ECT gauge detect/read?

Basically, I'm looking to do 300whp to start, then later I would like to do closer to 400 or 500whp, like the description says, but I know that upgrading internals are now neccessary to do. But that will be later down the road, when I get a raise So what type/stage clutch should I get? I heard centerforce is strong, but i'm not sure about the different types.

So if I had those parts above installed, and I was running 8psi, I would be 100% safe, or should and can I run at 6psi? Its just that it's my daily driver also. Also, can or should I get a boost controller, since I will eventually be upgrading?

So I would get charged around $500-1000 for kit installation, but what about the other parts? It's probably going to run me more for the clutch, differential, gauges, etc. right?

Thanks so much for your quick response Mike, and your help. I really appriciate it, I know how valuable time can be. Oh by the way, nice Eclipse! I lovvve black, and your rims too. Do you have this kit installed? How much HP are you running?

Re:I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/11 11:37 Mike, I just checked out your ride, very VERY sweet! You have sooo many upgrades beyond belief. You car is my dream car. Do you think you can strip all the parts off, and send them to me UPS next day? Just kidding. Just real jelous. Thanks again for your help!

Re:I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/11 14:43 On the right hand Nav, locate your application and you can fill up your shopping cart to create a purchase order to see how much everything is going to cost you including shipping.

You are right with your list Blaise. Getting everything at once is a good idea too, because it can all go in at one time, instead of seperately which costs you more downtime.

We sell everything you need. Like Russ said, add everything into a shopping cart using the shop feature on this site and you will get a total cost.

A limited slip evenly distributes the power to both front wheels. It aids you in launching and cornering. Aside from that, the stock differential is very weak and breaks easily under hard launching. The Quaife has a LIFETIME warranty against breakage, meaning it is guaranteed never to break, and if it should you get a free replacement. The EGT (not ECT) stands for Exhaust Gas Temperature, and measures exactly that. It is a way of telling how lean or rich your motor is running. If its too hot, you risk engine failure.

You will need a stage 3 clutch in my opinion. Spec makes a great street disc, as does ACT. I have the ACT myself and like it a lot, bit either one will do you good.

You could run 8psi safely. You wouldnt need a boost controller right away however. That would be something you could get later when you are ready to raise the boost.

Thanks for the good words about my car I just raised the boost to 12psi, but I havent dyno'd it yet to see exactly how much power its putting down. I would assume around the 350 area, which I would be pretty happy with.

Let me know if you have nay more questions.

Re:I'm new, so what do I do? - 2006/07/12 09:02 Another note for stratus owners. It was found that for some reason that aftermarket clutches do not mate up to the stock flywheels properly. So when you end up buying an aftermarket clutch for the 2G Stratus 5 speeds, than you also need to buy a flywheel as well. But most poeple do this anyways while they are in there but just put that out there as a FYI.
