Re:New Garage Sale Section - 2006/06/26 11:05well im trying to decide now whether to go n/a or turbo. im not sure what would be cheaper. if i go n/a i want to go with stage 1 or 2 cams. i know with just getting those cams, i'll probaly only reach 220 whp. but it would be about 2000 less than a turbo. its so hard to figure out though.

Why wouldnt you need better valve springs because it is a higher lift than stock cams? Would it give it a little more power if i put better valve springs and cam wheels in it. If i decide to go n/a i plan on getting an SAFC for the headers and wouldnt that help get out more horsepower from the cams. What do you think would be the approximate horsepower increase from a stage 1, maybe 10whp.

Stage 1 cams are designed by RPW as a drop in cam. The idea behind strong springs is to insure that the valve closes when it is supposed to and not float between cam lobe cycles which can be detrimental to your engine. You can't go wrong with having stronger springs but it's unecessary for stage 1 cams. We are still wondering what cams will do to a N/A 3G as well since most customers typically buy turbo or supercharger cams. We've found in the past that the stock Eclipse ECU attempts to compensate for small modifications added to the 6G72 which means that what you would normally get as a HP increase in most cars is not realized near as much in the V6 Eclipse. This is why many Eclipse owners have chosen to go Turbo. Once it's all said and done, spending equal amounts of money to stay NA vs FI, the forced induction motor will produce MUCH more HP to the wheels. As far as the SAFC goes, it does seem to help lean out a very rich air to fuel ratio in this motor.
